Upper-Zone Rejection

An upper zone can become an area to watch when price approaches from below. The key question is not whether the zone must stop price, but how price behaves when it gets there.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE
The diagram shows a test of an upper reference area followed by movement away from the zone. Illustrative only—not real market data, a forecast, or a trade signal.

Setup

Price is moving upward toward a published upper Key Zone. Because the area is known in advance, a trader can prepare to observe the interaction rather than react to an unexpected price level.

What to observe

  • Does price hesitate as it enters or tests the area?
  • Does price fail to establish sustained trade through the zone?
  • Does price begin moving away from the area after the test?
  • Is the response clean enough to fit the trader's own setup and confirmation rules?

What would change the interpretation

A quick reaction is not automatically a durable rejection. If price returns to the area, holds through it, or repeatedly trades above it, the original rejection interpretation may be weakening.

  • Repeated returns to the zone with less movement away
  • Sustained trade through or above the area
  • A fast reclaim after an initial move lower
  • No clear separation from the zone

Risk considerations

A useful reaction area does not define position size, maximum loss, or acceptable risk. Those decisions belong to the trader's own plan and should be established before acting.

Remember: An upper zone identifies where to pay attention. Rejection is something price must demonstrate; it should not be assumed simply because the zone exists.
